Rethinking our Advent Calendar

Today we took down and put away ALL the Christmas decorations.  The holidays have officially ended in our house…. …and I will be honest, I AM BEAT!  From Thanksgiving till New Years, it is exhausting.  Every year I want to find a way to make it slower, with less stress and more joy.  I want to be able to do the things I enjoy (a.k.a the Christmas craft, make cookies with the kids, maybe sing Christmas carols? It COULD happen. I decided for this season we were not using the “treat” advent calendar, the adorable one with little doors where I needed to find 25 days worth of items for my 3 children.  That is 75 items!!! Baby It’s Cold Outside

Tonight we celebrated a soon to arrive baby in our family.  A sprinkle of sorts.  A small sprinkle.  Almost like a misting. Just immediate family, only girls and you needed to be a sister, mother or sister- in- law of the babies Mom or Dad to attend.  My husband’s brother and his wife, Kelley, are expecting #2.  Kelley’s Mom and I equally LOVE party planning.  Even though it is a small gathering, she could not resist incorporating a theme.  I agree, it is essential.  She asked me to make the cake topper.  So, I did.   The theme…Baby It’s Cold Outside. The Cork Clutch

The Cork Clutch.  Environmentally friendly, fun, functional and with a little flare.   My father-in-law traveled to Portugal a few years ago and brought my daughter a bracelet made of cork rope. Cork rope is a very soft, beautiful material which comes in a variety of colors used for jewelry making.  This was indeed my Christmas Craft of 2018 (hopefully, a post on my bracelets in the future). In buying cork rope, I came across cork fabric on Etsy and thought it was so interesting.  My mom bought me a sewing machine a couple years back and over time the idea of trying to sew cork fabric grew.
